in 3D Modeling, Alloy Selection,
Low Porosity Castings and Other
Custom Requirements

Wellsville’s committment is to develop and manufacture
castings that meet your requirements for strength,
ductility, abrasion resistance and life cycle cost.
We have extensive engineering, metallurgical, design
and manufacturing resources, and provide:

  • Advanced stereolithography resources
  • Fast-track prototype development, including
    stereolithography for castings projects with
    short lead times
  • Extensive 3D modeling capability
  • Expert advice regarding standard, proprietary
    and custom alloy alternatives
  • Fully-equipped met lab with optical
    emission spectrometry

Wellsville Foundry is widely recognized for its ability
to solve customer problems with castings that offer
lowest life cycle cost.

Wellsvile is best known for low porosity / shrinkage-free
castings. The ability to consistently manufacture low
porosity castings that have minimal voids and internal
inclusions has been of substantial benefit to customers
in the steel processing, brick and tile, and power
gen / power distribution industries.

In addition, our ability to document this capability with
advanced image enhancement technology that quickly
and accurately flags porosity at the micro-porosity level,
has paved the way to greater process improvement,
higher levels of quality control, and documentation
that meets the most demanding requirements.

Low porosity castings are key to mission-critical
applications in sectors as diverse as aerospace,
heavy equipment and food processing.

A manufacturer of food processing equipment had
prototyped a 6-ring weldment, which the company
wanted to have made as a casting. The prototype tooling
was sent to several leading foundries in the region,
challenging each to cast this complex part. The best
that was achieved produced a 50% scrap rate.

Wellsville used solidification modeling and engineering
to develop a proprietary methodology which met ASME
pressure vessel code requirements and produced a scrap
rate of less than 5%. The Class 40 gray iron castings
manufactured by Wellsville were ideal for this component,
which was critical to a steam-generating heat exchanger.

Need design assistance? Wellsville provides expert
prototyping, or prototyping plus production, using
Magnasoft solidification modeling. Our work has earned
an honorable from AFS (American Foundry Society) –
and more importantly, repeat customers throughout
the Great Lakes Region, and Midwest.
