(ASTM A-536) All grades
Ni-Resist Castings
(Ductile and Gray Iron Castings)
ASTM A-436, Class D-2 through D-5S
Ni-Resist ductile and gray iron castings offer the performance
properties of stainless steel castings, without the stainless
appearance. Depending on grade, Ni-Resist castings provide
excellent corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, low
thermal expansion and thermal shock resistance. Wellsville
recommends Ni-Resist castings for pumps, valves, pipe
fittings, flanges and marine industry products.
Ni-Resist ductile and gray iron castings are also well-suited
for applications involving sour gas (hydrogen sulfide – H2S),
which can cause sulfide corrosion cracking.
Austempered Ductile Iron Castings /
ADI Castings Grades 1-5 Austempered ductile iron castings (ADI castings) are
manufactured by heat treating ductile cast iron; small
quantities of nickel, copper and molybdenum are added to
enhance hardenability. ADI castings offer exceptional
strength-to-weight ratios, with excellent fracture resistance
and fatigue strength. ADI castings density is 10% less
than steel, so they’re an excellent replacement for steel
forgings. Replacing steel forgings with ADI castings also
saves weight. ADI castings provide great design flexibility;
they offer a unique combination of noise-damping
properties, high strength, and wear resistance.
Recently, a Wellsville ADI hammer casting (shown top,
far right) replaced one of manganese steel, while
delivering 50% longer service life.
Wellsville recommends ADI castings for applications
including mining equipment and gears.
Carbidic Austempered Ductile
Iron Castings / CADI Castings CADI uses a matrix of carbides and ausferrite to add wear
resistance and strength to ductile iron castings. The result
is longer service life, and higher wear-resistance than
Grade 5 ADI. Wellsville recommends CADI castings for
many off-highway, construction, agricultural and mining
components, and material handling applications such
as cranes. Compacted Graphite Castings
(ASTM A-842) Class 250-450 Compacted graphite castings (also known as CG or CGI)
deliver double the tensile strength – and greater toughness
than standard gray irons – They are used in applications
requiring very high performance and durability. One
well-publicized use for compacted graphite castings is
the clutch assembly for Aston Martin’s flagship V12
Vanquish Coupe. Gray Iron Castings
